The Passing of William J. Smith MBE Shihan

Mr William J Smith MBE Shihan

On behalf of all of us from YAUK I would like to say how sad we are at the passing away of Mr. William Smith Sensei.

Our association with the UKA began when Frank Burlingham organised the popular Big 3 courses in Lowestoft with Mr. Foster, Mr. Smith and the late Mr. Moss. They were very enjoyable and memorable years and good friendships were formed between the associations.

We feel very fortunate to have known Mr. Smith and very honoured that he has visited our own dojo many times. Those weekends were very special to us; this year in particular as we understand that our last visit in February was the last seminar taught by Mr. Smith. We are so grateful to him for coming.

Our thoughts go out to Mrs. Smith, Phillip, Diane and the other members of the family at this difficult time and also to all members of the UKA. On a personal note I would like to say what a wonderful support Mr. Smith was to me after Tom’s death. He continually offered help and advice for which I was and am so grateful.
