Dan Grading Weekend 2007

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

The annual Yama Arashi UK Dan grading weekend was held on Friday September 21st until Sunday 23rd. This began with a two hour course, held on the Friday evening, instructed by Sensei Moss.

Saturday afternoon continued with more training by Sensei Moss and the senior instructors of YAUK, namely Grev Cooke, Ric Costigan and Brian Kennedy. The course was well attended with members from the Coventry club, together with members from the Milton Keynes, Stratford and Scotland affiliated clubs.

The gradings were held as usual on Sunday morning. A relatively small grading this year with 2 candidates for 1st Dan and 2 for 2nd Dan.

A good standard was achieved by Jake Irwin and Dennis Young who were successful in gaining their 1st Dan, together with Charlie Reid and Dean Simpson who were awarded 2nd Dan. A pleasant surprise for everyone was Steve Thompson and Colin Garner who were awarded 4th Dan. These were made by Sensei Moss with the endorsement from Mr Tony Thielemans, head of YA Brussels.

After the ceremony the usual celebrations followed. A meal was enjoyed by all at The Bell, Monks Kirby, after which we all headed back to the club for more partying.

A great weekend. Congratulations to the new Dan grades.
